IPL 2023: Click here to know those 3 captains who are performing very poorly in IPL 2023!
The 16th edition of IPL has got off to a very exciting start. In the last two weeks, we have seen some incredible performances from players who are at different stages of their careers.
Most of the team captains have performed quite well in their specific roles. Shikhar Dhawan, Nitish Rana, Faf du Plessis, and Aiden Markram have been the best-performing captains this season. However, we take a look at three captains who are spoiling their team in IPL 2023.
#1 David Warner
David Warner is one of the greatest players of all time in IPL history. He is only the third player to score more than 6000 runs in the prestigious T20 competition. His consistency and the scoring rate have been unbelievable. Warner has scored 228 runs in five matches this season and is at number four in the Orange Cap race.
Although Warner's runs have come from a strike rate of only 116.92. This essentially means that he is scoring big runs, but he has not been able to do so at a high run rate. While the entire Delhi Capitals batting lineup has been out of form, the skipper's performance this season has definitely affected their overall performance with the bat.
#2 Hardik Pandya
Hardik Pandya was one of the key figures in Gujarat Titans' title triumph last season - scoring 487 runs in 15 innings at an average of 44 and a strike rate of 131. Pandya also took eight wickets at an economy rate of 7.28. While his strike rate declined, he batted quite well in a different role according to match conditions.
However, he had a poor start to IPL 2023, scoring just 49 runs in four innings and taking one wicket in 10 overs - five of which were in the powerplay. His T20 batting form has been poor since the Asia Cup.
#3 KL Rahul
While KL Rahul has been a consistent run-scorer in the IPL, he has faced a lot of criticism for his slow batting in the last three years. He came into IPL 2023 after a poor performance in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup last year, after which he did not play a single match for the national team in the T20 format.
In IPL 2023, Rahul has scored 155 runs in five innings at an average of 31 and a strike rate of 113 - the least for any batsman to score more than 100 runs this season. Most notably, he scored a 20-ball 18 in their chase of 213 against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Chinnaswamy Stadium on Monday, 10 April.
