Shreyas Iyer: Out of BCCI central contract, insulted by KKR, sacrificed his century, kept the honor of the team

GT vs PBKS IPL 2025 Highlights: Shreyas Iyer scored an unbeaten 97 in his debut match as captain of Punjab Kings to lead the team to an 11-run win over Gujarat Titans. Iyer praised the team's performance after the match.
Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer had a big challenge on the evening of 25 March. New team in IPL, new responsibility, new challenge as well as the burden of an expensive price tag of Rs 26 crore 75 lakh. But the right-handed batsman played such an unbeaten innings of 97 runs that the world is bowing its head in prostration.
Sacrificing his century for the team,
he gave priority to his team without worrying about his century. The result of which was that after scoring 243 runs, his team restricted Gujarat Titans to 232 runs and won the match by 11 runs. After the match was over, Shashank Singh himself told how his batting partner Shreyas Iyer asked him to hit a shot on every ball without worrying about his century.
Nine sixes and five fours
This was the first match of both Punjab Kings and Gujarat Titans in IPL 2025. Iyer scored an unbeaten 97 off just 42 balls with the help of nine sixes and five fours, helping Punjab Kings post a mammoth score of 243 for five, in response to which Gujarat Titans could only score 232 for five.
KKR dropped him and also ignored him from the central contract.
Despite a brilliant performance in the ODI World Cup 2023, Shreyas Iyer was dropped from the team for being undisciplined. He was accused of preferring IPL over playing domestic cricket. He was shown the way out of BCCI's central contract. After this, he led Kolkata Knight Riders to win the last IPL season under his captaincy. Despite this, KKR did not retain its winning captain. This was no less than a shock for the right-handed batsman. Making a comeback, Iyer not only made a place in the team but was also an important part of India's winning combination of Champions Trophy 2025.
