Dr Prasun Chatterjee Healthy Life Tips: Good health is our biggest asset. Without it, our life is incomplete. The path to long life is through good health. Scientists around the world are struggling to find out how someone can live a long life by staying healthy. But if we see, our sages and saints knew the secret of long life for centuries. Today, science has started proving their daily routine as the mantra for long life and healthy living. But the question is what is this mantra? Can anyone live for 100 years without any disease? If you ask this question to Dr. Prasun Chatterjee, Additional Superintendent of AIIMS National Center for Aging , his answer is yes, one can definitely live but it will not happen in your way. For this, you will have to follow a healthy lifestyle. Let us know about it in detail.
What does science say
Dr. Prasun Chatterjee says that how long we will live depends on many things. For example, if the parents have a long life, then there is a 30 percent chance that their child will also have a long life. That means genes are also a major reason for long life. After this, 70 percent of long life depends on your health. That means, what is your daily routine, what do you eat, how much exercise do you do, what kind of environment do you live in, how is your family and social life, whether you live in the mountains or in a plain land. You yourself are responsible for most of these things and by improving these things, you can live a long and healthy life.
Walk with nature
In the 1950s, the average age of people in our country was around 50 years, but even then our sages and saints lived for 100 years. Why did they live for so long? There is a very simple answer to this. The life of our sages and saints was very simple and disciplined. They followed the biological clock of the body. They used to eat between sunrise and sunset. They did not eat after sunset. That means they did not eat at night. There is a clock fitted in our brain which keeps the movement between the brain and the body in a rhythm. This means that if we walk with nature, then our body will stay away from diseases.
Dr. Prasun Chatterjee says that the most important role of food is your food for longevity. Your food will decide how your health will be at the age of 80. 5 places in the world are considered as Blue Zones. People here not only live long but are also healthy. A study was done on the food habits of school children in Okinawa, Japan. The study conducted for many years found that the children here eat 20 to 30 percent less than the children living in other parts of Japan. That is, diet restriction is a big factor. Our sages and saints knew this for centuries. At least around 1900 AD, we knew that calorie restriction increases life span. They were ahead of us in terms of health. They always ate between 6 am and 6 pm. Therefore, whenever you eat, try to keep your stomach at least 20 percent hungry every time.
Make your stomach like a hybrid car
Dr. Prasun Chatterjee says that we should make our stomach like a hybrid car in which a little bit of everything is used. That means eat all kinds of healthy and balanced food. You should also eat some whole grains like roti-rice-dal, eat lots of vegetables, eat fresh fruits, eat seeds. Nowadays the trend of removing carbohydrates from the diet has increased. This is called keto diet. But there is no special benefit from this. We need 50 percent carbohydrates in the entire diet every day. A study done in Britain has also found that people who take up to 50 percent carbohydrates in their diet have a long life. Our brain gets 50 percent energy from carbohydrates only. It has also been found that being vegetarian is a big factor in longevity. Vegetarian food reduces the risk of cancer and heart disease by 20 to 25 percent. Citrus fruits such as oranges, kiwi, pineapple, blueberries, strawberries, lemons, etc. also increase longevity.
It is very important to know what not to eat
Dr. Prasun Chatterjee says that it is very important to know what not to eat for a long life. It has been proved in many researches that eating junk food, fast food is very harmful for health and it also shortens the lifespan. Junk food is like poison which gives instant calories but does not give energy. On the other hand, there is a greater risk of cancer from non-veg food, especially meat. Meat contains more methionine amino acid. Methionine is also important for us but if it becomes more in our body then it increases the risk of stomach cancer. Red meat should not be taken at all. On the other hand, sugar is a big factor in shortening the lifespan. If you stop eating sugar from today, then your lifespan will definitely increase. Sugar is like diesel which apart from leaving pollution also reduces the lifespan of the engine. Therefore, if you stop eating sugar then there is nothing better than this. If you cannot quit, then never take more than 20-25 grams of free sugar. Sugar reduces life span. After this, if you consume cigarettes and alcohol, then also your life span will not be long.
Bringing movement to the muscles is very important
Dr. Prasun Chatterjee said that after eating, it is very important to bring movement to the muscles. In my life I have not seen any healthy 80-year-old man who has not exercised. One minute of exercise increases your lifespan by 7 minutes. Nowadays, many researches have shown that walking is the best way to bring movement in your body. Unless there is movement in your muscles, they will not remain healthy. Exercise is the main food for muscles. If you walk at least 7,000 steps daily, it will help a lot in increasing your lifespan. People of the Blue Zone live in the mountains. Walking at high altitudes is more beneficial. Along with this, they cycle regularly.
Social and family life is also important
People who live in the blue zone have a very good social and family life. Dr. Prasun Chatterjee says that social isolation or feeling of self-isolation is going to be a big disease in the times to come. Studies have shown that people who live in social or family isolation are at a higher risk of dementia and depression. This also increases the tendency of suicide. Therefore, create a good social environment where you live. Make good friends, gossip with them, talk to everyone in the family, go on picnics, roam around, take a walk and be happy.
