Who doesn't like black thick drunk hair, black-black unique hair? You might also like to flaunt your silky locks. But the hair does not always remain black and thick. After an age, it becomes very important to paint them. Although nowadays the black and white look is also liked by many people, still if you want to colour your hair then choosing the right hair colour is also very important. Of course, choosing the right hair colour is also not easy and many people take reviews from experts for this.

If hair colour is to be done and it has to be done to look trendy or to make white hair look black, people mostly try to choose the ammonia-free hair colour. It is a common belief that ammonia-free hair colour will not harm the hair. Of course, if a chemical like ammonia is coming into your scalp, then it may mean that your hair is falling because of it, but is ammonia-free hair colour right?

Dermatologist and hair expert Dr Kiran, who studied at Columbia University, has shared things related to this on her Instagram account. She has run a series on debunking beauty myths, in one episode she has told whether the ammonia-free hair colour is beneficial or not.

What does ammonia do to your hair?

Most of the cheaper brands use ammonia which penetrates through the scalp to the hair follicles and tries to set the colour at the roots of your hair. Due to this, the hair follicles become weak and hair starts falling.

People who care a lot about hair also believe that only ammonia-free hair colour will be beneficial for you. But could it be a marketing stunt? Dr Kiran says that it is just like a scam. It has been spread for marketing and the reality is that whatever colour you take, there must be some kind of chemical in it which is doing this work.

That chemical can permanently or semi-permanently change the colour of your hair. Still, it will damage your hair. The damage caused by ammonia will be as dangerous as the damage caused by these normal hair colours.

If you want to dye your hair, go for natural methods. Henna and indigo powder will cause less damage than ammonia-based dyes, but that doesn't mean they're completely safe.

Overall, if you are adopting any method to colour your hair, then surely you are weakening your hair.
