Many necessary documents are created for the residents of any country to establish their identity and get recognition from the government. One such important document is the passport, which serves as a means of identification and allows individuals to travel to other countries. In most large countries, a passport is a prerequisite for international travel. However, there are instances where this important document either gets lost or gets stolen along with the luggage. In such situations, certain actions can be taken. Let's see what can be done:

File a complaint with the police:

It is important to handle the passport carefully to prevent misuse. In the unfortunate event of a passport being lost or stolen, immediately file a complaint with the local police. Provide them with all relevant information. By doing this you will not be held responsible if your passport is misused. If you are abroad and have lost your passport, notify the embassy or consulate.

Re-apply for a passport:

It is important to understand the process of re-applying for a passport after it is lost or stolen. The process for obtaining a new passport is the same for everyone, whether the previous passport is clogged, lost, damaged or stolen. If it is reported lost or stolen, the responsibility lies with the person who misuses it. If you are abroad and have lost your passport, notify the embassy or consulate for guidance.

Make a Duplicate Passport:

After your passport is lost or stolen, it is important to know how to apply for a duplicate. The process for making a duplicate passport is the same for everyone, whether the passport is filled in, lost, damaged or stolen. You can apply for passport services on a tatkal (urgent) basis, and the new passport is usually issued within 15 days. The requisite fees have to be paid during this process. Having a photocopy of the old passport, if available, may speed up the process but is not mandatory.
