Foods to Avoid Before Physical Exercise: Exercise is necessary to keep the body and mind healthy. But, do you know that eating certain foods before exercise can cause allergies? Here you can know about some such foods, which can worsen the condition if eaten after exercise.
Physical activity is considered very important for health. But there are some health problems associated with it, which can make your condition worse due to a small mistake. Food Dependent Exercise Induced Anaphylaxis (FDEIA) is one such medical condition.
In a recent case study conducted at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, a healthy 12-year-old boy was diagnosed with this rare health condition. In fact, the boy had eaten shrimp salad for lunch before going to play a cricket match with his friends, after which his health started deteriorating 10 minutes later during the match.
What is FDEIA?
FDEIA is a disorder in which anaphylaxis develops when physical activity is performed within a few hours of consuming a specific food.
Symptoms of FDEIA
According to the NCBI report, its symptoms can vary but often include hives, stomach cramps, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, lips, or throat, and dizziness or fainting.
Do not eat these foods before exercise.
Many different types of foods can cause FDEIA, but the main ones include wheat, shellfish, nuts, tomatoes, peanuts, fish, pork, beef, mushrooms, hazelnuts, eggs, peaches, apples, milk, and alcohol.
Preventive measures
FDEIA is considered a postprandial phenomenon and patients are recommended to avoid exercise for 4 to 6 hours after eating triggering foods, reduce exercise intensity after eating, avoid exercise in extreme temperatures, and carry an epinephrine autoinjector when exercising.
