This tradition is not of today but of mythological times. According to Vedic scriptures, Shubh Muhurat (What is Muhurat) is that particular time when the position of planets and constellations in the solar system is auspicious for a particular work. For this reason, auspicious time is observed to remove obstacles and difficulties. In Hinduism, auspicious timings are strictly followed for important functions like Mundan, Upanayana, Marriage, Griha Pravesh, or Namkaran. It is believed that by starting and ending any work at an auspicious time, all the wishes of a person are fulfilled and many kinds of problems in life also end.

To know the auspicious time, the help of astrologers or pundits is taken. According to astrology, only auspicious time is considered suitable for work. It is also said in the scriptures that if a person does auspicious work during an inauspicious period, then there is a religious belief that he may face many problems in life.
