• Demon King Hiranyakashyap wanted to eliminate his son, Prahlad, who was a devout follower of Lord Vishnu.
• He ordered Holika, who had a boon that made her immune to fire, to sit with Prahlad in a burning pyre.
• However, Holika was burnt to ashes, while Prahlad remained unharmed due to his faith in Lord Vishnu.
• This event is celebrated as Holika Dahan, symbolizing the victory of righteousness over evil forces.

Essential Items for Holika Puja

To perform Holika Puja, the following materials are required:

• Idols of Holika and Prahlad made from cow dung
• Ganga water
• Roli and rice (Akshat)
• A garland of flowers
• Coconut and dried coconut flakes
• Jaggery and raw cotton
• Turmeric and sandalwood
• Wheat ears and gram
• Camphor and ghee lamp

Step-by-Step Method of Holika Puja

1. Purification and Preparation

   • Take a bath and wear clean clothes before starting the puja.
   • Mentally prepare for the ritual by focusing on positivity and devotion.

2. Installation of Holika

   • Place the cow dung idols of Holika and Prahlad at the designated worship site.
   • Sprinkle Ganga water to purify the area.

3. Offering and Worship

   • Apply sandalwood and offer a garland of flowers to the idols.
   • Wrap raw cotton thread around Holika three or seven times.
   • Light a ghee lamp and burn incense sticks.
   • Offer jaggery, coconut, wheat ears, and gram as naivedya (sacred offering).
   • Perform aarti and pray for happiness, prosperity, and protection from negativity.
