A few years ago, people in villages used to cook food mainly on stoves, times have changed drastically with the widespread availability of LPG gas cylinders. There is no smoke in cooking with gas, and the convenience of having the cylinder delivered to your doorstep is unmatched. However, a common issue that arises is gas leaks. It is important to know what to do if a gas cylinder leaks to prevent any possible accidents. Let us learn about the immediate steps to be taken if a gas leak is suspected:

Step 1: Be alert

If you smell even the slightest smell, be alert that the gas cylinder is leaking. In such a situation, open all the windows and doors of your house. Do not light matches or turn on any lights. Keep children away from these potential dangers.

Step 2: Turn off the regulator

If you confirm a gas leak, turn off the regulator immediately. Leaving it on will keep the leak. If gas leakage continues after the regulator is closed, remove the regulator and close the cylinder securely with a safety cap.

Step 3: Notify the gas agency

Once you are sure of your safety, contact your gas agency or delivery service. Providing them with the necessary information puts the onus on them to immediately replace the cylinder with a new and safe cylinder.

Step 4: Outdoor Placement

Do not place the cylinder inside your home if you feel the gas leakage is serious. Place it in an open area or, if possible, take it outside with a cap securely on it. Make sure it is out of reach of children.
