Is your PAN card valid or not? Find out in these easy ways
According to the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), the last date for linking PAN with Aadhaar is March 31, 2023. People can link their PAN and Aadhaar through the official portal.
The Income Tax Department has issued a final warning for linking PAN with Aadhaar Card. According to the public advisory, if you do not link your PAN with your Aadhaar before March 31, 2023, then the PAN card will be deactivated. Once the PAN is deactivated, the PAN holder will not be able to initiate financial transactions linked to the PAN. Even all income tax pending returns will be stopped.
Linking of PAN and Aadhaar is mandatory for all Indian citizens (except those falling in the exempted category). The advisory further states, “It is mandatory. Don't delay, link it today! Unlinked PAN will be treated as deactivated from April 1, 2023.
Those who have not linked both ID cards can start the linking process by visiting incometax.gov.in/iec/foportal. For this people will have to pay a fee of Rs.
Meanwhile, it is also necessary to check the validity of the Pan Card. If a person has been assigned more than one PAN card or is using a duplicate PAN card, the government deactivates that PAN card.
Check online whether the pan card is valid or not
- Go to the e-filing website of the Income Tax Department.
- Click on the “Verify Your PAN Details” link on the left side of the page.
- Now enter your PAN number in the provident field.
- Enter your full name.
- Now enter the captcha code shown on the page.
- Now click on “Submit”.
- Is your PAN card active or not? The website will show its status.
Know through SMS whether the PAN card is valid or not
You can also check the validity of your PAN card by sending an SMS to 567678 or 56161 as per the format mentioned below.
- If your PAN number is ABCDE1234F, then you will send the message – NSDL PAN ABCDE1234F
- After sending the SMS, you will get an SMS with the status of your PAN card, whether it is active or not.
