Who was Nathuram Godse?

Nathuram Godse was born on 19 May 1910 in Baramati, British India. He was associated with the Hindu nationalist organization Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and later joined the Hindu Mahasabha. Godse also served as the editor of the newspaper Agrani to spread Hindu nationalist ideas. 

Why did Godse fire bullets at Mahatma Gandhi? 

Nathuram Godse never denied the murder of Mahatma Gandhi. He gave several reasons why he took this step. He believed that Gandhi's policies were in favour of Muslims, which were against Hindus. Godse accused Gandhi of taking a soft stand towards Pakistan and held Mahatma Gandhi responsible for the violence and pain caused by the Indian partition. Godse was enraged over this One of Godse's major complaints was that the Indian government had decided to give Pakistan Rs 55 crore, which was withheld due to the Kashmir dispute. Gandhi had gone on a hunger strike to ensure that this payment was made. Godse considered this a move against India and believed that removing Gandhi was necessary for India's future. 

How was Mahatma Gandhi assassinated? 

On 30 January 1948, at around 5:00 pm, Mahatma Gandhi was going to his evening prayer meeting at Birla House in Delhi. As he approached the prayer place, Godse stepped forward from the crowd and shot Gandhi three times from close range. Gandhi fainted and later died. Godse and his companions were hanged on 15 November 1949 Godse was immediately arrested and tried at the Red Fort in Delhi. In November 1949, he and his companion Narayan Apte were sentenced to death. Both were hanged on 15 November 1949. The assassination of Mahatma Gandhi was a tragic and unforgettable event, but his teachings, which are based on non-violence and truth, continue to inspire people all over the world.
