According to religious texts, the incarnation of Lord Rama took place in Treta Yuga. It is said that King Dasaratha of Ayodhya performed a yagya to get a son. All the philanthropists, ascetics, learned sages and Vedas learned great pundits performed this yagya. Prasad of kheer was offered in the Yagya. King Dashrath distributed the prasad of kheer among his three queens. By consuming this kheer, on Chaitra Shukla Navami, the three queens of the king, Kaushalya, Sumitra Kaikeyi gave birth to four sons.

From the womb of mother Kaushalya, a blue-colored, stunning, supremely bright, very beautiful child was born.
