When we travel or bring samosa or kachori from the market, the newspaper is often used to pack these foods. You too must have done this at some point or the other. Even today many people use newspapers to pack roti in lunch. If you are also one of those people, then stop doing this from today itself. Because by doing this you can become vulnerable to many serious diseases. We are not saying this; rather it has been said by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).

Why is it unsafe to pack food in newspapers? 

According to the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), whatever ink is used to print newspapers. Many types of harmful chemicals are used in it. Many types of colours and preservatives are used in the printing ink, in such a situation, if you pack any kind of food, especially oily things, in the newspaper, then these dangerous chemicals get stuck to it, due to which it goes inside the body. Apart from this, the paper used in newspapers is also recycled due to which many types of chemicals including lead and heavy metals are present in it which can make the food contaminated. This can also prove fatal for us.

What are the disadvantages of wrapping food in newspapers? 

  • According to the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India, this can make the food poisonous and affect digestive health.
  • Your stomach may get upset. There may be a problem of stomach infection.
  • Giving food in newspapers to youth, children and people suffering from any disease can weaken their immunity.
  • There may also be a risk of diseases like cancer.
  • There may also be a risk of hormonal imbalance due to this.
