Recently, a report by the Center for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA) has come out, which confirms this. After this report, the concern about pollution in the country has deepened further.

The Winter Ambient Air Quality Snapshot for India 2025 report also tells which cities were the cleanest during the winter season. According to the report, Aizawl, a city in the Indian state of Mizoram, was the cleanest during winter. The average level of PM 2.5 here during the winter season was.

238 cities were included

Let us tell you that in this report of CREA, data related to air quality in 38 cities has been analyzed. This analysis, which ran from October 1, 2024 to February 28, 2025, revealed that out of 238 cities, there were 173 cities where the air quality was more than the set standards.

Why is the air of Aizawl clean

Aizawl (Mizoram) recorded PM2.5 levels of just 7 µg/m³, well below India's national standard (40 µg/m³). Aizawl's clean air is attributed to its dense greenery, low industrial activity and limited number of vehicles.

Karnataka topped the list. Six cities of this state were among the cleanest places. Clean air was recorded in cities like Chamarajanagar, Madikeri, Chikkamangaluru and Shivamogga. These cities have dense forests, green hills and less industrial activities - due to which the air here is very clean.

Apart from this, Tirupur, Palkalaiperur and Rameswaram of Tamil Nadu are also among the cleanest cities of India. Due to coastal areas and regular sea breezes, the pollution level in these cities remained low.
