Claims have been made in news reports about new restrictions at the holy shrine of Kedarnath in Uttarakhand. There are reports of prescribed dress codes, Dakshina, and a ban on mobile phones among the devotees. However, these reports are misleading. A clarification has been issued by the temple committee.

Reacting to the claims, Badri Kedar Temple Committee (BKTC) president Ajendra Ajay termed the news as misleading and baseless. In fact, BKTC sent a team to study four major temples in India. The aim of the study is to make the Char Dham Yatra more accessible and convenient for the devotees. Based on the reports, the officials are trying to improve the arrangements in Badrinath and Kedarnath.

There is no restriction on Dakshina in the journey. BKTC will not interfere in any way with Dakshina as it is the right of Teerth Purohits and Pandits. The temple staff are salaried employees and will not take any money from the devotees. Instead, donation boxes will be installed in the temples for the devotees. However, BKTC will not force devotees to donate as it is a matter of faith, assured Ajay.

On the claim of dress code, he said that the prescribed dress code will be for the salaried employees of the committee. It will be implemented only after proper discussion. The objective is easy identification and access to help and information by authorized persons for the devotees.

On the claim of the mobile and YouTube ban, the BKTC president said that no such decision has been taken so far. He said it is still under discussion. He told that SOP will be issued soon regarding Darshan during Char Dham Yatra.
