UPI Services to Be Blocked for These Users from April 1 – Check if You're Affected

If you use online payment apps like Google Pay, PhonePe, or Paytm, you need to be aware of this important update. The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has announced that UPI services linked to inactive mobile numbers will be deactivated from April 1.
Who Will Be Affected?
According to reports, UPI services will be discontinued for:
✅ Users whose mobile numbers are inactive for a long time.
✅ Users who changed their mobile number but have not updated it with their bank.
✅ Users who closed their old number without notifying the bank.
How to Keep Your UPI Active?
To continue using UPI services without any disruption, you must:
✔ Update your mobile number in your bank records.
✔ If you have changed your number, notify your bank immediately.
✔ Reactivate your old number if it is still linked to your bank account.
Why is NPCI Taking This Step?
The NPCI aims to prevent fraud and cybercrime by ensuring that deactivated mobile numbers are not linked to UPI accounts. Often, users switch to a new number but fail to update their bank details. If someone else gets their old number, they may accidentally or intentionally access the previous UPI account, leading to potential security risks.
By implementing this change, NPCI aims to make the UPI system more secure and fraud-proof. If you haven't updated your mobile number yet, do it now to avoid any inconvenience after April 1.
