Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh: A disturbing case of domestic violence has surfaced in Jabalpur, where a woman reached the Superintendent of Police’s office with CCTV footage allegedly showing her husband brutally assaulting her. The woman, injured and distressed, pleaded for protection and strict action against her husband and in-laws.
The victim, Preeti Srivastava, married for nearly 16 years and mother to a 15-year-old son, alleges that her husband Neeraj Srivastava routinely beats her under pressure to divorce him. She further claims that her mother-in-law, brother-in-law and sister-in-law silently watch the violence and have been harassing her mentally and physically for years.
CCTV footage handed to police
Preeti arrived at the SP office on Monday and submitted CCTV video showing the assault. She alleged that she and her children were thrown out of the house and that her in-laws illegally transferred her property into their own names.
Taking the matter seriously, ASP Anjana Tiwari directed Ghampur police station to begin immediate action.
What the victim alleges
According to Preeti, the early years of marriage were peaceful, but her husband later became addicted to alcohol and increasingly violent. She claims the situation deteriorated after her sister-in-law, Rani Srivastava, moved back to her parental home and began interfering in her marital life. Over time, Preeti says, the influence of her sister-in-law, elder sister-in-law and brother-in-law created continuous tension, and her husband began hitting her over minor disagreements.
Property dispute added to the torture
Preeti alleges that her father had registered their house in her name, but her in-laws fraudulently transferred the property to Rani’s name. She claims she was forced to sign papers without being told what the documents were for. After her father-in-law’s death, the financial and emotional pressure increased, and she was allegedly asked to vacate the same house that belonged to her.
