Assi Box Office: Film Collects ₹4.2 Crore in Opening Weekend, World Cup Clash Fails to Dent Earnings

The latest release Assi, directed by Anubhav Sinha and starring Taapsee Pannu, has opened to a solid response at the box office. Despite stiff competition from a high-voltage cricket match, the film posted strong numbers in its first weekend.

Released in theatres on February 20, Assi generated buzz on social media even before its release, and that interest translated into ticket sales. The film collected a total of ₹4.2 crore over its first three days.

Day-Wise Collection

  • Friday (Day 1): ₹1 crore

  • Saturday (Day 2): ₹1.6 crore

  • Sunday (Day 3): ₹1.6 crore

Sunday’s earnings remained steady despite the India vs South Africa clash during the ICC Men's T20 World Cup, indicating strong audience interest in the film.

No Discount Offers, Still Strong Numbers

Unlike many releases that rely on opening-weekend schemes such as “buy one get one” ticket offers, the makers of Assi avoided such promotions. Even without discounted pricing, the film managed to cross the ₹4 crore mark in its opening weekend, a sign of healthy word-of-mouth.

Strong Cast and Social Theme

Along with Taapsee Pannu, the film features Zeeshan Ayyub and Kumud Mishra in key roles. The story is written by Gaurav Solanki.

Known for addressing hard-hitting social issues, Anubhav Sinha once again takes a bold approach with Assi, which focuses on the disturbing frequency of sexual assault cases in India. The film has been widely appreciated for its performances and its uncompromising subject matter.

Trade analysts believe that if the current trend continues, Assi could see further growth in the coming weekdays.
