Bank Holidays – October 31: There is some confusion among customers regarding whether banks will remain open or closed on the last day of the month, October 31. In most states across the country, all public and private sector banks will remain open as usual on October 31. However, bank branches in some cities will remain closed due to local holidays.
RBI Rule: Banks remain open on the 5th Saturday
According to Reserve Bank of India (RBI) guidelines, banks observe an official holiday on the second and fourth Saturday of every month. The first, third, and fifth Saturdays are regular working days.
There are five Saturdays in October:
October 3 (1st Saturday): Banks were open.
October 10 (2nd Saturday): Banks were closed.
October 17 (3rd Saturday): Banks were open.
October 24 (4th Saturday): Banks were closed.
October 31 (5th Saturday): Most banks across the country will remain open.
Holiday in Ahmedabad, Gujarat
As per the official RBI holiday list, bank branches in the Ahmedabad (Gujarat) circle will remain closed on October 31 to mark the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Outside of Gujarat—in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, and all other major states and cities—banks will operate as usual.
Digital banking services will remain available.
If banks are closed in your city, or if you prefer not to visit a branch, you can utilize online banking services. You can perform online fund transfers using platforms like Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, or your bank’s mobile application. Online money transfer facilities—including Net Banking, NEFT, and RTGS—will remain available 24x7. ATM services for cash withdrawals and deposits will also continue to function.
