A disturbing case of harassment has surfaced in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, where a young woman’s marriage was called off after a man allegedly created and circulated obscene, morphed photos of her. Police have registered a case in the Baradari police station area based on the family’s complaint and have begun a detailed investigation.
The victim’s family, originally from the Bisauli police station area in Badaun district, currently lives in Baradari. Their daughter is a student at a private medical college. According to her father, a man named Awadhesh Yadav, a resident of Mohalla Sarai in Saifni (Rampur district), had been harassing and following the girl for a long time.
Accused allegedly morphed photos
The family alleges that Awadhesh somehow obtained regular photos of the student from her phone or social media. He then edited these images to make them obscene and circulated them to different people in an attempt to defame her. The family initially chose not to escalate the matter, fearing harm to the girl’s studies and reputation.
Marriage talks underway when harassment intensified
When the girl’s marriage was finalised with a well-off family, the harassment reportedly escalated. Upset over the marriage being arranged without him, the accused allegedly sent the edited photos to the girl’s fiancé. Shocked by the photos, the fiancé’s family confronted the victim’s parents, and eventually, the marriage was cancelled.
According to the complaint, Awadhesh continued sending the morphed images to the girl’s relatives, including her cousin, leading to increased gossip and social pressure. The family also claims he threatened to make all her photos viral on social media if the marriage went ahead.
Complaint escalated to senior officials
Unable to cope with the pressure, the family filed a complaint with senior police authorities, including the DIG. Acting on these orders, the Baradari police registered a case. Station in-charge Dhananjay Pandey confirmed that serious sections of the IPC have been invoked and technical evidence such as mobile data, chats, and images is being examined. He stated that the accused would be arrested soon.
Family in distress
The harassment has left the young student mentally shaken. Her father said the family has been living in fear and wants strict action to ensure no other girl faces such exploitation. Police have assured them that the case is being handled with priority.
