Boost Brain Power and Strengthen Bones This Winter with Gond Pak

Traditional Indian kitchen recipes are not just rich in taste—they also carry generations of wisdom and nutrition. When prepared with the right balance of ingredients, these age-old dishes can provide immense health benefits. One such winter-special recipe is Gond Pak, a nourishing sweet made from edible gum, ghee, milk, nuts, and warming spices.

Gond (edible gum) has been used in Indian households since ancient times and is known for being a good source of calcium. During winter, Gond Pak helps keep the body warm while providing essential nutrients. Though it is a sweet preparation, it should be consumed in moderation—1 to 2 spoonfuls daily, depending on age, is enough to enjoy its benefits. You can also set it into barfi pieces or store it in a metal container and consume it by the spoon.

Ingredients Required

  • ½ cup gond (edible gum)

  • 2 cups milk (boiled and cooled)

  • 1 cup mixed dry fruits (almonds, cashews, walnuts, pistachios, lotus seeds)

  • ½ cup finely grated dry coconut

  • ¼ cup poppy seeds

  • ½ cup pure ghee

  • Jaggery (as needed for sweetness)

  • 1 tablespoon dry ginger powder

  • 1 teaspoon green cardamom powder

  • ½ teaspoon nutmeg powder

How to Make Gond Pak

  1. Grind the gond in a mixer to make a fine powder and set aside.

  2. Heat ghee in a pan and roast almonds, walnuts, cashews, and lotus seeds on low heat until aromatic. Grind them coarsely for texture.

  3. In another pan, heat a little ghee and roast the grated coconut and poppy seeds for 3–4 minutes until lightly golden. Keep aside.

  4. Add a few tablespoons of ghee to the pan and roast the gond powder on low heat for 2–3 minutes, stirring continuously.

  5. Pour in the milk and cook the mixture for 8–10 minutes until it thickens.

  6. Add the roasted nuts, coconut, and poppy seeds and mix well.

  7. Add jaggery powder or grated jaggery and cook while stirring until it melts completely and releases ghee.

  8. Finally, add dry ginger, cardamom, and nutmeg powder. Mix well and remove from heat.

Your nutritious Gond Pak is ready. Allow it to cool before storing.
