When we talk about Punjabi culture, food automatically takes centre stage. From butter-loaded parathas and makki di roti to sarson da saag, Punjab’s cuisine is loved across the world. But along with spicy dishes, traditional Punjabi desserts are equally popular. While Amritsari kulcha is famous everywhere, Amritsari-style fruit cream is a hidden gem that instantly becomes a favourite once you taste it.
The rich creaminess combined with the natural sweetness of fresh fruits makes this dessert irresistible. It’s light, refreshing, and much healthier than regular ice cream. Once you make it at home, children will keep asking for it again and again—and adults won’t be far behind.
Let’s learn how to make this delicious fruit cream in a few simple steps.
Ingredients required
– 250 grams fresh cream
– 120 grams condensed milk (adjust to taste)
– A few saffron strands
– ½ teaspoon vanilla essence
– Mixed fruits (5–6 pieces total): grapes, pomegranate, banana, apple, strawberry (choose as per availability)
– Dry fruits: raisins, apricots, cranberries, tutti frutti
– Nuts for crunch: almonds, cashews, pistachios, walnuts
Method to prepare fruit cream
First, wash all the fruits thoroughly. Peel fruits like apple and banana, separate pomegranate seeds, and chop the remaining fruits into small, even pieces.
Next, finely chop or lightly crush the nuts—almonds, cashews, pistachios, or walnuts—according to your preference.
Take a large, deep bowl and add the fresh cream. Whip it using a spoon or whisk for about 8–10 minutes until it becomes light and fluffy. You can also use a hand blender to speed up the process.
Once the cream is well whipped, add condensed milk, saffron strands, and vanilla essence. Mix gently until everything is well combined.
Now add the chopped fruits, dry fruits, and nuts to the cream. Mix carefully so the fruits don’t break. Sprinkle tutti frutti on top and lightly fold it in or spread it evenly.
Cover the bowl tightly with cling wrap and place it in the freezer for at least 4–5 hours so the cream sets properly.
After chilling, remove it from the freezer and serve cold. The creamy texture and fruity flavour will instantly impress everyone.
A healthier alternative to ice cream
Fruit cream is a great option for those who crave ice cream but want something lighter and more nutritious. It contains natural sugars from fruits, healthy fats from nuts, and can even be made without added sugar. This makes it perfect for winter cravings as well.
