Harley-Davidson's New 440cc Cruiser Takes Aim at Royal Enfield: Retro Design, Powerful Engine and Premium Features

Harley-Davidson is preparing to expand its motorcycle lineup with a new cruiser, the Sprint 440, developed in collaboration with Hero MotoCorp. The upcoming motorcycle is expected to compete in the mid-capacity cruiser segment against popular models such as the Royal Enfield Meteor 350 and Honda Rebel 300.

The Sprint 440 is scheduled to make its first appearance at the EICMA 2026 motorcycle show in Milan, Italy. Harley-Davidson plans to launch the motorcycle in the US in 2027. However, the company has not yet announced its India launch timeline.

Here is everything you need to know about its design, engine, features and expected price.

1. Retro Cruiser Design Inspired by Classic Motorcycles

The Harley-Davidson Sprint 440 features a traditional cruiser design that gives it a distinctive identity. Unlike the company's X440, the new motorcycle gets a more conventional cruiser appearance.

Its design highlights include a teardrop-shaped fuel tank, round headlamp, curved handlebars, sloping seat and low-mounted exhaust. It also features a separate pillion seat and a compact rear mudguard.

The engine and several mechanical components feature a black finish, while the engine fins and exhaust receive metallic detailing.

International colour options are expected to include Dark Billiard Grey, Vivid Black and Teal Thunder.

2. 440cc Engine With a 6-Speed Gearbox

The Sprint 440 is powered by a 440cc single-cylinder, air-and-oil-cooled engine. It produces 26.7 bhp at 6,000 rpm and 38 Nm of peak torque at 4,000 rpm.

The engine is paired with a six-speed gearbox and an assist-and-slipper clutch.

The motorcycle has been designed to deliver comfortable riding performance and strong low-speed torque rather than focusing entirely on high-speed performance.

Its expected fuel efficiency is around 34 kmpl, although actual mileage will depend on riding conditions and individual riding habits.

The bike also gets a 9-litre fuel tank, which is smaller than the 13.5-litre tank offered with the X440 sold in India.

3. Low Seat Height Makes Riding More Comfortable

One of the most interesting aspects of the Sprint 440 is its 671mm seat height. The low seating position is expected to make the motorcycle accessible to a wider range of riders, including those who prefer a lower seat.

Harley-Davidson is also expected to offer separate Reach and Tallboy seat options.

The suspension setup includes 43mm upside-down front forks with 130mm of travel and twin rear shock absorbers featuring seven-step preload adjustment.

The motorcycle offers 147mm of ground clearance, an important consideration for riding on uneven roads and navigating speed breakers.

4. Disc Brakes, Alloy Wheels and ABS

The Sprint 440 is expected to come with 19-inch front and 17-inch rear alloy wheels.

For braking, it gets a 320mm front disc and a 240mm rear disc, along with an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS).

These components are designed to provide controlled braking and stability during everyday riding.

5. TFT Display and Modern Technology Features

Despite its retro styling, the Sprint 440 is expected to offer several modern features.

It gets a 3.5-inch colour TFT display, full LED lighting and a USB Type-C charging port positioned above the headlight.

Harley-Davidson is also expected to offer several accessories, including a dedicated windscreen, saddlebags, passenger backrest, engine guard and different handlebar options.

These accessories will allow owners to customise the motorcycle according to their commuting and touring requirements.

6. Expected Price and India Launch Details

The Sprint 440 is expected to be positioned in the affordable premium cruiser category. Its UK starting price is reported to be £4,995, while the US pricing and market-specific specifications will depend on the final launch announcement.

The expected Indian price is around ₹3.5 lakh, although Harley-Davidson has not officially confirmed an India launch or pricing details.

Since the motorcycle has been developed in collaboration with Hero MotoCorp, an Indian-market introduction could be a possibility. However, buyers will have to wait for an official announcement.

Can Harley-Davidson Sprint 440 Challenge Royal Enfield?

The Sprint 440 could bring an interesting new option to the mid-capacity motorcycle segment. Its classic cruiser styling, 440cc engine, low seat height and modern equipment may attract riders looking for a comfortable premium motorcycle.

However, its success in India will depend on its final pricing, availability, riding performance and after-sales support. If introduced at a competitive price, the Sprint 440 could become an interesting alternative for buyers considering Royal Enfield motorcycles.
