WhatsApp constantly adds new features to improve the privacy of its users. One of these is the Chat Lock feature, which allows you to individually lock specific chats. This keeps your private conversations secure and prevents anyone from accessing them without your permission.

What is Chat Lock feature?

Chat Lock is a feature that secures individual WhatsApp chats using your fingerprint, face unlock, or your phone's screen lock. Locked chats are moved to a Locked Chats folder separate from the regular chat list and require your phone's authentication to open them.

How to lock a single chat in WhatsApp

If you have the latest version of WhatsApp installed on your phone, follow the steps below:

Open WhatsApp and open the chat you want to lock.
Tap the contact or group name at the top.
Scroll down and select the Chat Lock option.
Lock this chat with fingerprint or enable the available security option.
Follow the on-screen instructions and confirm your identity (fingerprint, Face ID, or screen lock).

After this your chat will go to the Locked Chats section and to view it you will have to authenticate your phone.

How to open a locked chat?

Go to the top of your WhatsApp chat list and open the Locked Chats folder. Then, verify your identity using your fingerprint, Face ID, or screen lock. Upon successful verification, all locked chats will appear.
