In a dramatic contest between India A and Afghanistan A during the tri-series in Dambulla, young batter Vaibhav Suryavanshi had a lucky escape early in his innings before going on to make a useful contribution.
The match saw an early controversy when Suryavanshi was initially given out after attempting an aggressive stroke. The on-field umpire ruled him dismissed, but the decision was overturned by the third umpire after replays showed that the ball had touched the ground before the fielder completed the catch. As a result, he survived a dismissal on zero.
His fortune did not end there. A few deliveries later, he was dropped again in the field after mistiming a shot that went high in the air, giving him a second reprieve within the first few overs of his innings.
Taking full advantage of these chances, Suryavanshi began to settle into his rhythm and played some attacking shots to shift momentum back in India A’s favour. However, despite the promising start and the lifelines he received, he could not convert it into a big score.
He eventually scored 38 runs off 27 balls, including four boundaries and two sixes, before getting out. His innings, filled with early drama and missed opportunities from the opposition, became one of the key talking points of the match between India A and Afghanistan A.
