Panipat, Haryana: A shocking incident turned a wedding celebration into a scene of horror when six-year-old Vidhi was found dead in a water tub. The accused? None other than her own aunt, Poonam, who allegedly had murdered three other children previously. Authorities say jealousy over the child’s beauty was the motive behind this gruesome act.

Wedding Turns Tragic

The incident occurred in a village in Panipat. While the family had gathered for a wedding celebration, the joyful occasion quickly turned into panic when Vidhi went missing. Hours later, the horrifying truth came to light.

Police reports revealed that Poonam drowned Vidhi in a water tub while the rest of the family was away attending the wedding ceremony in Sonipat. Poonam had previously killed three other children in a similar manner, including her own son in 2023.

How the Crime Happened

Vidhi had traveled from Sonipat with her family to attend a relative’s wedding in Panipat’s Israna area, Nautha village. Present with her were her grandparents, parents, and 10-month-old younger brother.

Around 1:30 PM on Monday, the wedding procession left, and soon after, Vidhi disappeared. Her grandmother, Omwati, later found Vidhi’s body in a storeroom on the first floor of a relative’s house. Her head was submerged in a water tub, while her legs hung on the floor. Vidhi was rushed to NC Medical College, where she was declared dead. An FIR was subsequently filed naming Poonam as the accused.

The Killer’s Motive

Police say Poonam’s crimes were driven by extreme jealousy and anger. She did not want anyone, especially young girls, to appear more beautiful than her. Poonam admitted to killing four children in total, including three girls and her own son, all drowned in water.

Previously, people had assumed these deaths were natural, but during questioning for Vidhi’s case, Poonam revealed the chilling truth about her earlier murders.
