The death of 25-year-old Monika, also known as Roli Dubey, from Pratapgarh, under suspicious circumstances in Jhansi caused a stir. Her husband and in-laws were accused of assault. Following the statement of her four-year-old son and an FIR filed by her family, the police conducted a post-mortem examination and began an investigation.
Just 25 years old. A lifetime of hope. A five-year-old marriage, a four-year-old child, and a home full of dreams. But the conflict and harassment within this home took the life of Pratapgarh's daughter, Monica, also known as Roli Dubey. On Wednesday afternoon, Monica consumed poison and died, leaving her parents and the police searching for answers amid a flurry of questions and accusations.
Monica committed suicide after being fed up with the disputes at her in-laws' house.
Monica, a resident of Pratapgarh, was married to Shivam Dubey, a resident of Jhansi, on February 26, 2020. As their family grew, they also had a four-year-old son, Om. However, according to her parents, Monica's life was plagued by harassment from her husband, Shivam, and her in-laws.
The family alleges that despite working in Bengaluru, Shivam Dubey neither paid the child's fees nor provided for household expenses. The couple often quarreled over money, causing Monica to suffer from severe mental distress.
Night of controversy: Twice the tension in two days
The deceased's sister-in-law, Komal Pandey, said that Shivam had returned home on Tuesday after two months. That night, a dispute arose over money, but the matter was resolved after some discussion.
But on Wednesday morning, the situation escalated again. Monica secretly videotaped the domestic dispute with her sister-in-law via video call. It is alleged that her sister-in-law first pushed her, after which her husband, mother-in-law, and sister-in-law assaulted her.
Death after assault: Dispute at 10 am, poisoning at 12 pm and hospital at 4 pm
According to Komal, the fight began around 10 a.m., and at 12 p.m., under stress, Monica consumed some poisonous substance. It is also alleged that even after she consumed the poison, her in-laws did not immediately take her to the hospital. When her condition worsened at 4 p.m., Monica was taken to the hospital, where she died.
The body was stopped before the funeral, the child told the truth
When her parents arrived in Jhansi on Thursday morning, they found Monica's body lying outside the house and preparations for her funeral underway. Her sister-in-law was missing. The family immediately informed the police.
Four-year-old Om told the police, "Dad and Aunt beat Mom very badly. I even took photos during the fight." Following his statement, the police stopped the funeral, took possession of the body, and sent it for post-mortem.
Legal action initiated, police awaiting post-mortem report
Based on the complaint from the maternal family, the police have initiated action against husband Shivam Dubey, mother-in-law, and sister-in-law. Further action will be taken based on the post-mortem report, the child's statement, and other evidence.
