The menstrual cycle for women is typically 28 to 30 days. Because each woman's body is different, this cycle can sometimes range from 21 to 35 days. However, some women experience periods every 21 days. Therefore, many people wonder if this cycle time is correct.
Dr. Pooja Thukral, a gynecologist at Cloudnine Hospital, Faridabad, spoke to OnlyMyHealth about this. She explained whether it's okay to have your period after these 21 days.
Should periods always come after 28 days?
Dr. Pooja explained that the menstrual cycle is measured from the first day of a period to the first day of the next period. This cycle typically lasts 25 to 30 days. Some women may experience slightly longer or shorter cycles. Therefore, a 28-day cycle is an average, but it doesn't apply to every woman. The important thing is that periods should be regular and bleeding should be normal.
Is it a problem if your period comes after 21 days?
According to Dr. Pooja, if the gap between periods is less than 21 days or more than 35 days, it is not considered a regular cycle. This situation is called irregular periods. This is mainly caused by hormonal imbalances in the body. If you experience severe pain, nausea, vomiting, or excessive bleeding during your period, it is important to consult a doctor.
Hormonal changes, stress, lack of sleep, weight changes, or travel can be the reasons behind this. If this problem occurs repeatedly, it's important to get a checkup.
Dr. Pooja clarified that even a 21 -day cycle
doesn't decrease the chances of pregnancy. If ovulation occurs at the right time, pregnancy is possible. However, if the cycle is shorter than 21 days, ovulation may be affected. Therefore, in such cases, doctors perform certain tests and provide appropriate guidance.
Is there a risk of anemia?
Regarding this, Dr. Pooja says that every woman's body structure is different. If a woman has regular periods every 21 days and has no other complaints, it can be considered completely normal. Anemia is usually caused by excessive bleeding, anemia, or nutritional deficiencies. This is not directly related to the cycle time. However, if there is excessive bleeding or persistent fatigue, it is important to consult a doctor.
