As tensions continue to escalate between the United States, Israel, and Iran, global concern over stability in the Middle East has grown. Against this backdrop, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a phone conversation with the Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Meshaal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, to discuss the evolving regional security situation.
India Expresses Concern Over Regional Stability
According to a statement from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), PM Modi conveyed deep concern over the rapidly deteriorating security environment in West Asia. He also strongly condemned any attacks that threaten Kuwait’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of:
-
Immediate de-escalation of tensions
-
Dialogue and diplomatic engagement
-
Restoration of peace and regional stability
Focus on Safety of Indian Citizens in Kuwait
During the discussion, PM Modi also expressed gratitude to the Emir of Kuwait for his continued attention to the safety and welfare of the large Indian community living in the country.
Both leaders reportedly exchanged views on the broader security situation in the region and its potential impact on foreign nationals and regional cooperation.
Kuwait Airport Incident Raises Concerns
The conversation comes shortly after a reported attack on Kuwait International Airport, in which one Indian national was killed and several others were injured. India strongly condemned the incident and called for accountability for those responsible.
The MEA reiterated that Indian diplomatic missions in the region remain on high alert and are actively assisting affected citizens.
India Reiterates Stand on Protection of Civilians
Earlier, on June 3, the Ministry of External Affairs stated that civilians and critical infrastructure must not be targeted under any circumstances. India also expressed condolences to the bereaved family and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Indians abroad during emergencies.
Wider Regional Conflict Adds to Global Concern
Meanwhile, tensions between the US and Iran have reportedly intensified in recent days, with renewed military activity and retaliatory actions reported in the Gulf region.
The situation has added further strain to an already fragile geopolitical environment, raising concerns over maritime security, energy routes, and regional stability.
Final Thoughts
India’s outreach to Kuwait reflects its continued diplomatic engagement in West Asia and its focus on safeguarding both regional peace and the interests of Indian citizens abroad. As tensions persist, global attention remains fixed on efforts to prevent further escalation.
