The internal turmoil within the Punjab unit of the Congress has escalated after former MLA Navjot Kaur Sidhu openly rejected the party’s decision to suspend her primary membership. The suspension notice was issued by Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Warring.
Arriving in Patiala after the suspension, Navjot Kaur Sidhu told the media that the person who suspended her was “irrelevant” and asserted that she remains in direct contact with the party’s top leadership. “I will work on my own terms. I will not support thieves,” she said.
She alleged that “four to five people” are responsible for destroying the Congress party in Punjab. “If the high command sidelines these people, only then will we consider working within the system,” she added.
On the controversial ₹500 crore remark
Reacting to the controversy around her comment regarding an alleged ₹500 crore offer for the chief minister’s post, Navjot Kaur said the media had questioned her on why she did not become Chief Minister. “I replied that I did not have ₹500 crore,” she stated. She further claimed that if Rahul Gandhi had raised similar issues in Punjab, he would have been projected as a hero.
Attack on Randhawa and ticket sale allegations
Navjot Kaur also hit back at Sukhjinder Randhawa’s legal notice, saying that he could not even ensure the victory of his own wife. She alleged that party tickets were “openly sold for crores of rupees” in Rajasthan and claimed that she had already shared related evidence with the Congress high command.
“I won’t name leaders yet, but they are with me”
Claiming strong internal backing, Navjot Kaur asserted that nearly 90% of the party high command and 70% of Punjab Congress leaders are on her side. However, she said she would not make their names public at this stage. “When the time comes, they will all stand with me,” she said, adding that she is confident of forming the government in Punjab in 2027.
She also launched a fresh attack on Raja Warring, reiterating that her fight is against corruption and misuse of power within the party.
Meanwhile, Navjot Singh Sidhu also commented on the controversy, saying that he has spoken the truth and that if the party needs leaders who raise real issues on the ground, it will understand his stand. He claimed that support from the All India Congress Committee remains with him.
Navjot Kaur Sidhu was suspended from the Congress following repeated public allegations against Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Warring. Her ₹500 crore claim in connection with the Chief Minister’s post has triggered a major political storm within the party.
