“Rajasthan becomes India’s first state to impose up to 5 years in jail for protesting by placing a body on the road.”

Jaipur News: Rajasthan has now become the first state in the country where protesting by placing dead bodies on the streets or in public places will be considered a crime. To this end, the Bhajan Lal government has formally enacted and implemented the "Respect for Dead Bodies Act," which carries a penalty of up to five years' imprisonment.

Jaipur: Every day, people protest against any accident or incident by leaving dead bodies on the streets and demonstrating against the government and administration. However, Rajasthan has now become the only state in the country where protesting by leaving bodies on the streets or in public places is considered a crime. The state government has enacted and implemented the "Respect for Dead Bodies Act."

What is the 'Dead Body Respect Law'?

In fact, the Rajasthan government has enacted the "Dead Body Respect Law" and issued a notification for it. This law provides for the strictest punishment. According to this law, any non-family member of the deceased who uses the body for political demonstrations or protests on the streets will be imprisoned for six months to five years. A fine will also be imposed. Furthermore, if the family of the deceased refuses to accept the body after receiving a 24-hour notice from the Executive Magistrate, there is a provision for a one-year sentence. After this, the police administration will take possession of the body, perform the last rites, and take legal action against those responsible.

This law was made by the Ashok Gehlot government

It should be noted that the Ashok Gehlot government enacted the "Dead Body Respect Act" and passed it in the Assembly on July 20, 2023. Although passed, it was not implemented because the BJP government was in the opposition at the time and strongly opposed it. Now, two years after the BJP came to power, Chief Minister Bhajan Lal has issued an order implementing the bill. Interestingly, no changes have been made to it.
