Rekha May Return to Films After a Decade: Fresh Hints Spark Comeback Buzz

Rekha… a name that needs no introduction in Indian cinema. Starting her journey in the 70s, she ruled Bollywood as a leading actress through the 80s and 90s, later shifting to supporting roles. Though she has stayed away from the big screen for more than ten years, her charm and legacy keep her constantly in the spotlight. Now, fresh speculation suggests that the veteran star may finally return to films.

The renewed buzz around Rekha began after recent comments by actor Vijay Varma and designer-producer Manish Malhotra. Interestingly, Rekha was initially considered for Vijay’s upcoming film Gustakh Ishq, but the talks did not progress. However, hints from the team indicate that her comeback may happen sooner than expected.

What did Vijay Varma and Manish Malhotra say?
Manish Malhotra, one of Bollywood’s top designers and now a film producer, shares a close bond with Rekha. His film Gustakh Ishq features Vijay Varma and Fatima Sana Shaikh in lead roles. While promoting the film, both Manish and Vijay spoke about the possibility of Rekha returning to cinema.

During an interview, Vijay revealed that Manish was keen to have Rekha appear in Gustakh Ishq. However, the director felt the offered role was too small for an icon of her stature and that she deserved something more significant.

Manish is hopeful about casting Rekha soon
Manish further confirmed that he definitely wants to work with Rekha in the future. He shared that if a script comes along with the right depth and dignity, he would love to create a film featuring the legendary actress. He’s currently waiting for a story and a role truly worthy of her.

Rekha’s last film
Rekha, now 71, began her career at just 16 with the 1970 film Sawan Bhadon. Over the decades, she delivered unforgettable performances and countless hits. Her last theatrical appearance was in the 2014 film Super Nani, starring Sharman Joshi.
