The Indian captain added another chapter to his record-breaking career by setting multiple milestones during the second ODI against England in Cardiff.
India captain Rohit Sharma may not have converted his start into a big score in the second ODI against England, but his brief innings was enough to help him rewrite the record books once again.
Rohit scored 26 runs off 47 deliveries before being dismissed, yet his trademark pull-shot six proved significant. The maximum not only delighted fans but also helped him become India's highest six-hitter against England across all international formats.
Along with the sixes record, the experienced opener also climbed the all-time ODI run-scoring chart and reached another major partnership milestone alongside Virat Kohli.
Rohit Becomes India's Leading Six-Hitter Against England
During his innings in Cardiff, Rohit struck his 56th international six against England, moving past Rishabh Pant, who has hit 55 sixes against the Three Lions.
With this achievement, Rohit now tops the list of Indian batters with the most international sixes against England.
Most Sixes by Indian Batters Against England
| Player | Sixes |
|---|---|
| Rohit Sharma | 56 |
| Rishabh Pant | 55 |
| Yuvraj Singh | 53 |
| MS Dhoni | 52 |
The record further highlights Rohit's reputation as one of India's most destructive white-ball batters.
Climbs to Seventh on the All-Time ODI Run List
Rohit also achieved another personal landmark by overtaking former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq in the list of highest run-scorers in One-Day Internationals.
After his innings in Cardiff, Rohit's ODI tally reached 11,757 runs in 279 innings, taking him to seventh place on the all-time list.
Inzamam had previously occupied the position with 11,739 ODI runs, making Rohit's latest milestone another significant achievement in his illustrious career.
Rohit and Virat Cross 8,000 Partnership Runs
The second ODI also saw another memorable achievement for India's experienced batting duo.
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli shared a 60-run partnership, taking their combined partnership tally to more than 8,000 runs across all three international formats.
The pair has now become only the third Indian batting combination to cross the 8,000-run partnership mark.
They trail only two legendary Indian pairs:
-
Sachin Tendulkar & Sourav Ganguly – 12,400 partnership runs.
-
Sachin Tendulkar & Rahul Dravid – 11,037 partnership runs.
The milestone reflects the consistency and longevity of the Rohit-Kohli partnership across Tests, ODIs, and T20 Internationals.
Quiet Innings, Historic Day
Although Rohit was unable to register a half-century in Cardiff, his innings proved memorable because of the records achieved during his stay at the crease.
The Indian skipper continues to strengthen his place among cricket's modern greats, adding another series of milestones to an already remarkable international career.
With several important matches still ahead, Rohit will be looking to convert future starts into bigger scores while extending his lead in India's batting record books.
