Rohit Sharma Retirement Buzz: Batting Coach Backs Hitman, Says ‘No Pressure on a Player Like Him’

Amid growing discussions about Rohit Sharma’s ODI future, India’s batting coach Sitanshu Kotak has come forward in support of the veteran opener, stating that a player of Rohit’s stature does not feel pressure easily.

The debate around Rohit’s form has intensified during the ongoing ODI series against England. In the second ODI in Cardiff, Rohit scored a slow 26 runs off 47 balls, and India suffered a four-wicket defeat. Following the match, reports began circulating that selectors may reconsider Rohit’s place in the team as they prepare for the 2027 ODI World Cup.

Coach Clears the Air on Rohit’s Future

During the post-match press conference, Sitanshu Kotak was asked about the pressure surrounding Rohit Sharma and questions over his ODI career.

Responding to the concerns, Kotak said that a player of Rohit’s experience and achievements cannot be affected by such pressure. He acknowledged that Rohit has not scored big runs in his last two innings but added that this does not change his confidence in the batter.

Kotak explained that Rohit looked capable of playing a big innings during the match, but cricket does not always go according to expectations.

‘Rohit Can Produce a Different Innings at Lord’s’

Kotak also rejected the suggestion that Rohit is struggling with his batting. He said fans could see a completely different version of the Indian opener in the final ODI at Lord’s.

According to the batting coach, the Cardiff pitch had uneven bounce, making it difficult for Rohit to play his trademark attacking shots. He added that Rohit did not get enough deliveries in his preferred areas, which affected his scoring.

Rohit’s Recent ODI Numbers Under Spotlight

Despite the backing from the coaching staff, Rohit Sharma’s recent ODI performances have raised concerns. In eight ODIs this year, the right-handed opener has scored 241 runs at an average of 30.12, including only one half-century.

His performance in the ODI series against Afghanistan before the England tour also failed to meet expectations, adding to the discussion around his long-term role in the Indian team.

With the final ODI at Lord’s approaching, all eyes will be on Rohit Sharma as he looks to answer critics with his bat and strengthen his case for continuing in the ODI format.
