Speaking to reporters on Saturday, Navjot Kaur said that if the Congress declares her the party's Chief Ministerial candidate in Punjab, her husband will return to active politics. Punjab elections are due in 2027.

She further wrote, "All I said was that the Congress party never asked us for anything. When I was asked whether Navjot could become the Chief Ministerial candidate from another party, I said we don't have any money to offer anyone for the Chief Ministerial position."
The Rs 500 crore statements was given after meeting the Governor.
He also said that he doesn't have money to give to any party, but he can make Punjab a "golden state." "We always talk about Punjab and Punjabiyat... but we don't have Rs 500 crore to give to sit on the chief minister's chair," he told reporters after meeting Governor Gulab Chand Kataria to discuss several issues, including the alleged deteriorating law and order situation in the state.
