The Paratha Memory: When PM Modi Asked Dharmendra This Question

The passing of legendary actor Dharmendra on November 24th marks the end of an era in Indian cinema. The actor, who shared a warm personal relationship with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, once recounted a cherished memory of a breakfast they shared together.

Dharmendra's connection to the PM is close, with him, his wife Hema Malini, and his son Sunny Deol all having served as Members of Parliament for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The Breakfast and the Question

Dharmendra recalled this unique interaction on September 17th, PM Modi's 75th birthday, in a video shared on social media.

The Setting: Dharmendra reminisced about a time when PM Modi invited him for breakfast. The spread consisted of typical Gujarati delicacies like dhokla and other delicious dishes.

The Surprise Dish: Among the Gujarati dishes, Dharmendra noticed one item that seemed out of place: a paratha.

PM Modi's Question: The Prime Minister then asked Dharmendra a question regarding the unexpected dish:

"You said that Dharamji didn't ask why this paratha was kept? I said, 'I don't understand, but it looks good, it's making my mouth water.'"

The Reason: PM Modi then explained the special inclusion:

"You said that when I was in Punjab, you people used to eat paratha in the morning, at noon, and in the evening, so I got used to it. You said that Dharmendra should be given a paratha."

This anecdote beautifully highlights PM Modi's thoughtfulness in remembering the culinary background of Dharmendra, who hails from the village of Sahnewal in Punjab, ensuring the meal felt personal and accommodating.

Dharmendra concluded the story by expressing his admiration for the PM's energy and dedication, stating, "When I read or hear that our country is number three, number four, and you will take your country to number one. Your mother has instilled all these qualities in you."
