IMD Issues Fresh Weather Alert: Rain in the South, Cold Wave to Grip Multiple Regions
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a comprehensive weather alert for several parts of the country, indicating a mix of heavy rainfall, dense fog, and an intense cold wave over the next few days. As temperatures continue to dip, the IMD expects conditions to become harsher across northern and eastern regions, while southern areas may witness significant rainfall.
According to the latest IMD bulletin, parts of Tamil Nadu may experience heavy rain on December 5. The weather agency has also issued alerts for nearby coastal regions, including Puducherry and Karaikal, where thunderstorms and lightning are likely. Sea conditions near Lakshadweep, the adjoining areas of the southeast Arabian Sea, and regions close to the Kerala coast may remain rough. Fishermen have been strictly advised to avoid venturing into these waters during this period.
Cold Wave Set to Hit Delhi
The IMD has predicted a cold wave in the capital on December 5. Minimum temperatures are expected to fall to 4–6°C. While early mornings may be marked by shallow fog, skies are likely to clear later in the day. The drop in temperature indicates the arrival of peak winter conditions, which may intensify in the coming week.
Jharkhand to See Steep Temperature Decline
Over 50 percent of districts in Jharkhand are likely to be affected by a cold wave on December 5 and 6. Weather officials have warned of a sudden drop in temperature across regions such as Garhwa, Palamu, Chatra, Latehar, Lohardaga, Gumla, and Simdega. Ranchi is also expected to witness a continuous dip in temperature over the next few days. The IMD’s Ranchi center has advised residents to take necessary precautions to cope with extreme cold.
Cold Wave Likely in Several Northern and Northeastern Areas
On December 5, a cold wave may impact some areas in Punjab, Haryana, and parts of eastern Rajasthan. Between December 5 and 9, dense fog may disrupt visibility across parts of the Northeast, including Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura.
Similarly, dense fog is expected in Himachal Pradesh from December 5 to 7. Odisha may also face foggy conditions on December 5 and 6, potentially affecting travel and daily routines.
Temperature Outlook for Western Regions
In Maharashtra, no major change in minimum temperatures is expected over the next five days. However, a slight decline of 2–3°C may occur in the following two days. Gujarat, on the other hand, is likely to see stable temperatures with no significant fluctuations predicted over the next week.
Northwest and Central India Weather Trend
Across northwest India, minimum temperatures are likely to remain steady over the next 24 hours, before rising gradually by 3–4°C over the following four days. In contrast, central, eastern, and northeastern India may see a decline of 2–3°C in the next two days. After this period, temperatures in these regions are expected to stabilize without major changes.
What to Expect Next
With the onset of intense winter conditions, residents across affected regions are advised to stay updated with local forecasts and take necessary precautions, especially during early mornings and late evenings. The combination of cold waves, fog, and heavy rain may impact travel, health, and day-to-day activities. The IMD continues to monitor the evolving situation closely and will issue further advisories as needed.
