Ujjwala Yojana: Not 9, now only this many cylinders will get subsidy under the Ujjwala Yojana
Amid the growing LPG shortage due to the Iran war, the Union Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has indicated that the number of subsidized LPG cylinders available under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana has been revised. This number has now been reduced from 9 to 4. While the government has not yet issued a definitive statement, a recent statement from the ministry stated that Ujjwala families will receive a subsidy of ₹300 per cylinder for the first four refills each year.
How many cylinders will Ujjwala customers receive?
According to the government, Ujjwala beneficiaries already receive the benefit of an indirect subsidy. On June 7th, the price of LPG cylinders was increased by ₹29. Following this, the ministry states that Ujjwala beneficiaries now receive a 14.2-kg cylinder for approximately ₹642, while typical consumers pay up to ₹942.
Eligibility for Ujjwala Yojana:
The applicant must be a woman and must be 18 years of age or older.
The family should not already have an LPG connection.
An adult woman from a poor family can apply.
