Material

  • Urad dal (soaked in curd) – 1 cup
  • Ghee – 1/2 cup
  • Milk – 1 cup
  • Sugar – 3/4 cup (can be increased or decreased as per taste)
  • Cashews – 10-12 (chopped)
  • Almonds – 10-12 (chopped)
  • Cardamom powder – 1/2 teaspoon
  • Water – 1/2 cup (to soak the lentils)

Method

  • Soaking the lentils: Soak the urad dal in water overnight.
  • Grinding lentils: Add some water to the soaked lentils and make a coarse paste.
  • Frying in ghee: Heat ghee in a pan. Add the lentil paste and fry over medium heat, stirring constantly, until golden brown.
  • Adding the milk and sugar: Now add the milk and mix well. Add the sugar and cook until the pudding thickens.
  • Adding cashews and almonds: Add chopped cashews and almonds and cook for another 5 minutes.
  • Adding cardamom powder: Finally add cardamom powder and serve the halwa hot.
  • Serving Suggestion: Serve the halwa hot. Garnish with a few more cashews and almonds. If desired, you can also add a few saffron petals.
