Desi Ghee Benefits: Dry skin often becomes a major concern for people during winter. Using desi ghee can be very beneficial for improving skin during winter. In this article, a nutritionist explains in detail the benefits of desi ghee in winter.
Desi Ghee Benefits: With the arrival of winter, the cold winds cause dryness in the skin. In fact, cold and dry winds quickly draw moisture from the skin, leaving the face dry, rough, and lifeless. Cold causes water to evaporate rapidly from the upper layer of the skin, causing even those with oily skin to experience dryness. If someone has dry skin, they need to moisturize their skin the most. It's better to adopt indigenous methods to moisturize the skin instead of expensive creams. To learn about the benefits of Desi Ghee in winter, we visited Sarvodaya Hospital in Faridabad.Senior Dietician Ritika Sharma(Spoke to Ritika Sharma, Senior Dietitian (Nutrition Consultant), Sarvodaya Hospital, Sector-8, Faridabad). She told that Desi Ghee, which is a part of traditional Indian food, plays an important role in providing nutrition to the skin and body from inside and outside during winters.
Why is Desi Ghee beneficial in winter?
Nutritionist Ritika Sharma says, "In winter, our skin, lips, and heels tend to crack. During this time, our bodies need nutrients that strengthen the skin membranes and retain water, allowing for continued repair. Desi ghee is very beneficial in this regard."

Internal moisturizer in desi ghee
Desi ghee is packed with healthy fats, including omega-3, omega-6, and short-chain fatty acids, which help keep skin hydrated for a long time. This helps keep skin soft and reduces dryness.According to the report published in NCBI, Desi ghee is very healthy for the skin.
Desi ghee contains vitamins A and E.
Desi ghee contains two important fat-soluble vitamins: A and E. Vitamin A helps repair and regenerate skin and heals cold-damaged cells. Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant that protects the body from free radicals and UV damage. Many people experience premature aging of their skin and vitamin E helps prevent this excess dryness.
Desi Ghee Anti-Inflammation
Inflammation in the body affects the skin, but the butyric acid in ghee helps reduce systemic inflammation. For those suffering from eczema, rashes, itching, and winter irritation, ghee is especially beneficial. When inflammation subsides, the skin's glow also improves.
Desi ghee keeps the skin healthy
Chapped lips, cracked heels, and rough elbows are common during the winter. Desi ghee acts as a natural emollient, forming a light protective layer over the skin. This locks in moisture and repairs the skin barrier. Therefore, applying ghee to your lips and heels at night can leave them feeling soft the next day.
Keeping your stomach healthy with Desi Ghee
The gut is closely connected to the skin, and desi ghee supports the gut lining, improves digestion, and absorbs fat-soluble vitamins. When gut health is strong and inflammation in the body is reduced, the effects are directly visible on the skin. Skin feels soft, clear, and glowing. Itchiness is reduced, and the body's hydration remains balanced. Desi ghee is not only beneficial for the skin, but also for the entire body.
How much ghee should be consumed in winter?
Senior Dietician Ritika Sharma says, “Normal people should take one to two teaspoons of desi ghee daily."Ghee should be consumed daily, and for those who work out, two to three teaspoons is beneficial, provided the total calories are balanced. It should also be noted that people with high cholesterol, fatty liver, or those who have had gall bladder removal should consume it according to their doctor's advice."
How to take Desi Ghee?
Senior Dietician Ritika Sharm recommends that it should be taken with warm milk or lukewarm water. Adding a pinch of black pepper can accelerate the absorption of pure ghee tenfold. The piperine in black pepper helps promote better absorption. The recipe is very simple.
