The year 2025 was filled with a variety of emotions : fear and pain, triumph and hope. Some images shook the world. At the end of the year, we're remembering the 10 images that defined 2025.

Pahalgam attack and Operation Sindoor

On April 22, Pakistan-backed terrorists attacked the Baisaran Valley in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. They questioned tourists about their religion and opened fire on them. The attack resulted in the deaths of 26 people.

One of the most painful pictures was of Himanshi Narwal sitting near the dead body of her husband and Navy officer Lieutenant Vinay Narwal.

In response to the attack, India launched Operation Sindoor. The highlight of this operation was that the military's briefings were provided by two female officers: Army Colonel Sophia Qureshi and Air Force Wing Commander Vyomika Singh. They held several joint press briefings.

India's big leap into space

Indian Air Force test pilot Shubhanshu Shukla flew to the International Space Station ( ISS) as part of Axiom Mission 4. He became the second Indian civilian to fly to space, after Rakesh Sharma in 1984. This photo was a proud moment for the entire nation.

Confrontation in the White House

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with US President Donald Trump at the White House on March 1. What was expected to be a normal meeting turned confrontational when Trump accused Zelensky of not expressing gratitude enough.

Indian women's cricket team wins

On November 2, the Indian women's cricket team won its first Cricket World Cup. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur's team defeated South Africa in a thrilling final. It was called the 1983 moment for Indian women.

Strict action in America

The Trump administration began cracking down on illegal immigrants in the US after January. Most notably, those deported were handcuffed and shackled and deported by military aircraft .

Youth movement in Nepal

Following a social media ban in Nepal in September, young people, particularly Gen Z , protested against corruption on a large scale. Violence escalated, resulting in the deaths of 76 people. Prime Minister KP Oli Sharma resigned on September 9, and Sushila Karki became interim Prime Minister three days later.

Hong Kong's massive fire

In November, a fire at a large residential complex in Hong Kong killed 159 people. Around 4,600 people lived in 2,000 flats. An investigation found that the grilles installed during renovations did not meet fire-safety standards.

Air India crash

On June 12, Air India Flight 171 crashed 32 seconds after takeoff from Ahmedabad for London. Only one passenger survived out of 242 passengers and crew. The plane struck a medical college hostel block, killing 19 people and injuring 67.

The tragedy of Gaza

Continued attacks and the suspension of aid in Gaza led to severe hunger and distress in 2025. The Israel-Hamas war, which began in 2023, also brought devastation to the people of Gaza this year.
