A cricketer who has played 3 matches will replace Jay Shah in BCCI! These are the big contenders for the post of secretary
Big changes are going to happen in world cricket in the next few months and the reason for this is the Board of Control for Cricket in India. BCCI's current secretary Jay Shah will leave the board at the end of this year as he has been elected as the new chairman of the International Cricket Council. Shah will take over this post from December 1, due to which his post in BCCI will become vacant. Now the question is who will replace Shah? The decision on this will be taken only after a few weeks but a report has claimed that former Gujarat cricketer Anil Patel can come to this post. Anil Patel played 3 first-class matches for Gujarat and is currently associated with the Gujarat Cricket Association. However, apart from Anil Patel, the names of some contenders are also in discussion.
Jay Shah took charge as BCCI secretary for the first time in 2019. Since then Jay Shah has been in this position. Only one year is left of his tenure but even before that, he has decided to take charge of the ICC. Shah filed his nomination for the post of ICC chairman on 27 August, when there was no other contender in front of him and he was elected unopposed. Shah will now go to the ICC but to fill his place the board will need a new secretary, for which these faces are contenders
Former batsman Anil Patel, who has played for Gujarat, is also being considered a contender for this post. The reason for this is his association with the Gujarat Cricket Association. Patel is currently the secretary of the GCA. Jai Shah was also the secretary of the GCA earlier, after which he reached the BCCI. In such a situation, Anil Patel is also likely to get such an opportunity. Anil Patel played 3 first-class matches for Gujarat, in which he could score only 33 runs. He was also the manager of the Indian team in the World Test Championship Final 2023.
Arun Dhumal, brother of Union Minister and former BCCI President Anurag Thakur, has also been associated with the board in the last few years. In 2019, he was elected treasurer of the BCCI. Then two years ago, he was elected chairman of the IPL. Under his leadership, not only have 3 successful seasons of IPL been organized, but the Women's Premier League has also been successfully launched. Earlier, he was also the president of the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association.
After Arun Dhumal, Ashish Shelar took over the post of new treasurer of BCCI and is still holding it. BJP MLA from Maharashtra Shelar was associated with the Mumbai Cricket Association for a long time. Here in 2015, he became a member of the association for the first time, and then in 2017 he was elected President of MCA. He remained in this post till 2018 and then in 2022, he entered BCCI. Being very close to Jay Shah, he can be selected for this post.
