India's star pair Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma achieved a remarkable feat during the Asia Cup Super 4 match against Sri Lanka at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Tuesday. They became the fastest pair to complete 5000 runs in One Day International (ODI).

Kohli and Sharma have formed a strong partnership for India in ODIs, scoring over 5000 runs in just 86 innings. His partnership average is 62.47, which includes 18-century and 15 half-century partnerships. This feat establishes them as the eighth-best pair in the history of ODI cricket.

Before Kohli and Rohit, the record for the fastest pair to reach 5000 ODI runs was held by West Indies legends Gordon Greenidge and Desmond Haynes, who achieved the feat in 97 innings. They are followed by Australia's Matthew Hayden and Adam Gilchrist (104 innings), and Sri Lanka's Tillakaratne Dilshan and Kumar Sangakkara (105 innings).

Apart from this record, Rohit and Kohli also became the first Indian non-opening pair to reach 5,000 ODI runs. The global record for scoring the most runs as a pair in One Day Internationals is held by Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly, who scored 8227 runs in 176 innings.
