Mohammed Shami may have a surprise entry in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy to be hosted by Australia. Shami has not been selected in Team India's squad, but he may join later.

The prestigious Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) will be played in Australia from November 2024 to January 2025. There will be 5 Test matches in BGT this time. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced Team India for this on Friday (25 October). Star fast bowler Mohammed Shami, who is recovering from an ankle injury, is not named in this team. Shami was seen practicing with the coaching staff of the Indian team at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium after the Bengaluru Test against New Zealand. Despite this, he was not included in the team. Now a big update is coming out about Shami. The BCCI has made a special plan to take him to Australia.

Mohammed Shami is on the path to regaining match fitness after ankle surgery. He was about to return to professional cricket when his knee got swollen, due to which he had to stay away from the field for about a month. Captain Rohit Sharma had said before the New Zealand series, "It is difficult to say right now whether he will be fit for this series or the Australia series. Recently he has suffered another injury, his knee got swollen, which is quite unusual." Shami is still in the National Cricket Academy (NCA).

However, according to a report in the English newspaper Indian Express, Shami can be included in Team India for the last few matches of the Australia tour on one condition. The report says that if Shami proves his fitness in the Ranji Trophy, he can be included in the team. Shami is expected to play in the Karnataka vs Bengal match in the first week of November after Diwali. He will have to prove that he has achieved match fitness and can bowl 20 to 25 overs a day. If Shami is successful in doing so, he may have a surprise entry in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
