Team India's star all-rounder Hardik Pandya is in the news these days. He was considered to be the next T20 captain of Team India after Rohit. But Suryakumar has got this opportunity in his place and he has not even got the vice-captaincy. On the other hand, nothing is going right in his personal life either. Recently he has separated from his wife Natasha Stankovic. Amidst all this, another big news related to Hardik Pandya has come to light.
Hardik Pandya will have to pass this test at any cost
Team India has only six ODI matches left before the ICC Champions Trophy to be held in February next year. 3 ODI matches will be played in Sri Lanka and then India has to play the next three ODI matches against England in January. But Hardik Pandya has decided not to go on the Sri Lanka tour. In such a situation, there is doubt about Hardik's bowling fitness in the 50-over format.
According to a Times of India report, Hardik Pandya's fitness will be closely monitored in domestic cricket for the next few months. Only after this will a decision be taken whether Hardik will play in the Champions Trophy 2025 or not. A BCCI source told the Times of India that after returning from injury, Hardik has performed well by bowling just four overs in T20 cricket, but Hardik has not been tested in the longer format. His stamina needs to be monitored. The selectors will keep an eye on how he performs in the Vijay Hazare Trophy at the end of the year. If Hardik is not able to bowl long spells, his tension may increase.
He got injured in ODI format only
Hardik Pandya played his last ODI match against Bangladesh during the 2023 World Cup. He got injured in this match, due to which he had to be out of the tournament. Surya has been made the captain of the T20 team keeping in mind his workload management, so that Pandya can be given rest from time to time. At the same time, the responsibility of vice-captaincy has been given to Shubman Gill in ODIs as well as T20s.
