Former India off-spinner Harbhajan Singh has expressed his belief that Yuzvendra Chahal and Arshdeep Singh should have been included in India's 15-man squad for the upcoming ODI World Cup, a decision that has come as some surprise to fans and experts. Harbhajan made these comments during a virtual press conference organized by Star Sports, where he highlighted the importance of a left-arm pacer like Arshdeep in the team.

Harbhajan said, "According to me, there is a shortage of two players in the Indian team for the World Cup 2023. I am surprised by the non-selection of Arshdeep Singh and Yuzvendra Chahal. Chahal is a proven match-winner. He plays in the middle overs. Takes away wickets. He becomes your main weapon. He proved himself on many occasions. He emphasized the impact of left-arm fast bowlers like Mitchell Starc and Shaheen Shah Afridi in international cricket.

Regarding Chahal, Harbhajan has clearly backed him, calling him a proven match-winner and suggesting that he should have been included in the playing XI as a permanent fixture. "Chahal is a proven match-winner, having taken more wickets than any other spinner, and if he was playing for any other country, I think he would be in the playing XI all the time," he added.

Harbhajan expressed surprise at the absence of right-arm spinners in the team and pointed out that India had selected two left-arm spinners who might not both play in the same match. He argued that Chahal and Arshdeep should have been part of the team to provide a balanced bowling attack.

Turning his attention to batting, Harbhajan highlighted Suryakumar Yadav as the X-factor in the Indian squad for the World Cup, describing him as the most influential middle-order batsman in India. He praised Suryakumar's ability to find loopholes in the field and change the game quickly, despite his recent weak spot in the ODI format.

Harbhajan concluded by emphasizing the importance of senior players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli providing the team a strong start in the tournament.
