IPL Auction 2025 Highlights: 467.95 crores spent on the first day, 72 players got teams, this was the whole situation
After waiting for many days, the action of IPL 2025 Mega Auction has finally started and the first day itself proved to be exciting and surprising. Of the various speculations being made about the players since the retention, some proved to be correct and some brought completely different results in a surprising manner. Star Indian wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant broke all the old records. Lucknow Super Giants placed the highest bid of Rs 27 crore for him.

On the first day of the mega auction, bids were placed on a total of 84 players including marquee, capped and uncapped players, out of which 72 players were bought by different franchises. Every franchise was successful in opening its account on the first day. At the same time, 12 players did not find any buyer.
All the 10 franchises came to the auction table with a total purse of Rs 641 crore and Rs 467.95 crore was spent on buying 72 players on the first day itself. Now on the second day, the remaining players will be bought with a budget of about Rs 133 crore.
On the first day itself, 3 players were bid for more than Rs 20 crore, in which Rishabh Pant (27 crores – LSG) proved to be the most expensive. At the same time, Shreyas Iyer (26.75 crores – Punjab Kings) and Venkatesh Iyer (23.75 crores – Kolkata Knight Riders) also fetched high amounts.
Punjab Kings bought left-arm fast bowler Arshdeep Singh and leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal for Rs 18 crore each. With this, both of them became the most expensive Indian bowlers in the history of IPL auction.
On the first day, 12 players did not find any buyers, out of which 2 names were the most surprising - David Warner and Johnny Bairstow. These legends of Australia and England will be in focus on the second day.
Punjab Kings spent the most on the first day, Rs 88 crore. The franchise itself bought the maximum number of players, 10. Gujarat Titans and Delhi Capitals also bought 9 players each.
Mumbai Indians, who came with just Rs 45 crore, bought only 4 players and spent the least amount of Rs 18.90 crore. Rajasthan, who came with the smallest budget of Rs 41 crore, bought 5 players and spent Rs 23.65 crore.
The most expensive foreign player on the first day of the auction was England captain Jos Buttler, who was bought by Gujarat Titans for Rs 15.75 crore.
