Before the Indian team toured Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Matthew Wade announced his retirement from international cricket. This is Wade's second retirement in 8 months. Earlier in March this year, after playing the Sheffield Shield final, he announced his retirement from first-class i.e. red ball cricket. Matthew Wade played his last international match for Australia in June this year a T20 match against India.
Matthew Wade's international career started in October 2011 with a T20 match against South Africa. From then till June 2024, he played 92 T20 International matches, in which he scored 1202 runs. Apart from this, he also played 97 ODIs for Australia, in which he scored 1867 runs. Wade, who played his first ODI for Australia in February 2012, played his last ODI in July 2021
His Test career started in April 2012 and he played his last Test against India in January 2021. The wicketkeeper-batsman, who played 36 Tests for Australia, retired from first-class cricket in March 2024. He played 225 matches in his 13-year international career.

Wade will continue to play white-ball cricket both domestically and overseas, and is already moving into coaching.

Matthew Wade has also decided what he will do after retiring from international cricket. He will join the coaching staff of the Australian team. In this role, the home ODI series against Pakistan starting on November 4 will be his first assignment. Matthew Wade will be the fielding and keeping coach of the Australian team in this series.
Matthew Wade has retired from international cricket but he will continue to play white-ball cricket in domestic and international leagues. This means that Matthew Wade's magic can be seen in IPL 2025.
