ODI World Cup 2023: Know what is Pakistan's semi-final qualification scenario against New Zealand!

In their much-awaited match against South Africa, New Zealand not only lost but lost by a huge margin of 190 runs. This result has created an opportunity for teams like Pakistan and Afghanistan to advance late into the group stage.

Pakistan's upcoming match against New Zealand in Bengaluru on Saturday will play a crucial role in determining the position of both teams in the qualification race. This match holds immense importance and will greatly impact the future of these teams in the tournament.

Currently, New Zealand has won four and suffered three losses, resulting in a net run rate of 0.484. Pakistan, on the other hand, has won three and suffered four defeats, leading to a net run rate of -0.024. However, Pakistan has an opportunity to overtake New Zealand by defeating them by almost 84 runs or successfully chasing the target within 35 overs.

If this scenario plays out, both teams will earn 8 points. 

Nevertheless, Pakistan will have a slightly better net run rate, giving them a more favorable position in the race for the remaining two semi-final spots. This lead becomes especially important as India and South Africa already have six wins each.

However, if Pakistan loses the match against the Kiwis, it will probably mark the end of their World Cup journey. If they manage to defeat England in their final group game, they can earn a maximum of 8 points. In such a scenario, Australia would have to win at least one of their remaining three matches or avoid a significant defeat, to prevent Pakistan from being eliminated from the race.
