AP, Washington. Instagram is constantly adding new features to make the platform safe for teenagers. Now Meta has introduced a new type of account to protect teenagers. This is for teenagers under the age of 18 on Instagram.
Teens under the age of 18 who create an Instagram account will need to sign up for a Teen account, with parents having control over the changes, which began rolling out in the US, UK, Canada and Australia on Tuesday.
Instagram users who are currently under the age of 18 will have their accounts automatically switched to a new type of Teen account, which includes stricter privacy settings.
It will be difficult to send messages to an unknown account from such an account and sensitive content will also be greatly restricted. Teen users will now have to take permission from their parents to change account settings.
Once a teen's parents have set up Instagram's supervision tool, they will now be able to see which accounts their child is messaging. However, they will not be allowed to view the content of the messages.
